AMS rescue and evacuation at Kilimanjaro

Hi,

I am planning for a Kilimanjaro group climb in December 2019 and members are concerning about AMS. We plan on the Lomosho 8 day route.

  • #. 1 Is there any rescue organization (Gov. or Private) at the Kilimanjaro?
  • #. 2 Is there any arrangement or pre-arrangement that has to be met?
  • #. 3 Cost for AMS rescue or by insurance?

What should I asked for the climb operators for theirs rescue and recovery arrangement?

BTW, we have been to Nepal EBC and familiar with high altitude trekking but some still concern.

    1. Is there any rescue organization (Gov. or Private) at the Kilimanjaro?

    Yes, there is a rescue in Kilimanjaro it is done by both government (KINAPA) and Private Kilimanjaro SAR (Kilimanjaro Search and Rescue.

    2. Is there any arrangement or pre-arrangement that has to be met?

    Yes, there have to some arrangement before if you are using Kilimanjaro SAR, A copy of your insurance with the following information, Insurance Company name, Insurance policy number, Insurance Email Address, and Insurance Phone number should be sent to your tour operator so as they can apply for you. Note your insurance should cover 6000m

    3. Cost for AMS rescue or by insurance?

    If you have insurance which covers 6000m, the insurance will cover all the cost

    4. What should I ask for the climb operators for their rescue and recovery arrangement?

    Ask them what procedure do they use in case of rescue
