Get from Tanzania to Morocco by train?

Question

Hi everyone!  I’m Nguyen from Malta

My partner is from Tanzania and we need to meet us in Morocco for a cooperation work in July.

We need information about how to get from Tanzania to Morocco ( Casablanca, Rabat, Fez o Marrakech) by train such as: routes, train timetables …

We thank you beforehand for any suggestion that you want to make.

And please accept our very best wishes.

  1. That’s an extreme trip you are planning there. Unfortunately it can not be done completely (far from completely, actually) by train due to the limited rail links in Africa. Even if you changed your question to ‘How to get from Tanzania to Morocco overland?’, as such also including buses and shared taxis, the answer would still be that it’s very very difficult.

The first issue which comes to mind is the current safety situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, the Central African Republic, the Darfur region of Sudan, and the Sahara/sahel region of western Africa in general.

Add to this the fact that the border between Morocco and Algeria is completely shut and you’ll realize that you will have to make a significant detour. To further add to the misery, a visa for Angola is very expensive and extremely difficult to obtain (and there will probably be some other visa difficulties along the way as well).

Considering all of the above, going overland (nevermind trains) from Tanzania to Morocco will probably take a month or two and will surely cost more than a plane ticket so I would very strongly recommend that your partner takes a flight.
