Is a gorilla trek a must do?

Question

Hi all. We’re considering a visit to Rwanda, but don’t think we can afford a gorilla trek. Staying in Volcanoes NP. Should we consider another destination? Husband thinks we will regret going without seeing the gorillas. Thanks!

  1. It’s definitely a big decision to leave it out. Depending how much time you have you could consider crossing into Uganda and trekking at Mt Gahinga.

It’s 700 as opposed to 1500 but it’s still part of Volcanoes mountain range and the gorillas are the Rwandan families that have moved across the border. It’s about a 2-3 hour drive Musanze to Mt Gahinga Lodge.
