Serengeti and Maasai Mara split

Question

Hi,

My fiancé and I are going on a safari in the 2nd week of July and wanted to see Maasai MaraSerengeti, and Ngorongoro. We unfortunately only have a week for safari and are planning on 3 days Maasai Mara, 2 days Serengeti, on advice from our (I know you lose almost a whole day traveling between Maasai and Serengeti) and 1 day at Ngorongoro. I was hoping to get feedback on if we should try and do 3 days in Serengeti and 2 days in Maasai instead as I know Serengeti is much larger. Also looking to stay at Melia in Serengeti. Is that a bad idea from a location perspective as I know it’s more western.

Thank you!

  1. I am a huge fan of the Masai Mara, especially the private conservancies, but with such a short safari I’d be tempted to stick in Tanzania (assuming you don’t wish to drop the crater?)
However, if you do choose to do both, IMO it would be a sensible use of time to investigate the flights between the two which take a few hours and actually mean you are getting some safari time on your transit day, not just spending a fortune on sitting in a vehicle on bumpy roads.
