What to add in Ngorongoro and Serengeti?

Question

Hello,

I am planning for a 7 day trip to tanzania on Nov 21 (North safari and Zanzibar) 3 day safari will include Ngorongoro crater and serengeti NP, while I need an advise for the third day destination: would you recommend Tarangire, or Ngorogoro Conservation area or anything else that I have missed?

  1. You really can’t expect to do the crater and the Serengeti in three days. The drive from Arusha to the central Serengeti is itself a full day’s drive. Why would you come all the way to Tanzania and spend only three days on safari and four days on the beach? There are beaches everywhere in the world, but the African wildlife is unique to a very few spots, Tanzania being among the most important!

If you only have three days, spend them at Tarangire. It’s a great park with plenty of wildlife and within easy reach of Arusha. You really don’t have time for anything else. If you absolutely MUST see the crater, drive there on the 2nd afternoon and spend the night on the rim. Get to the gate at 6:00 a.m., do your 6-hour limit game drive, then return to Arusha in the afternoon. Long day, but just barely doable.

Don’t try for the Serengeti unless you can fly in and out and stay there for the three days.

You are vastly underestimating drive times and how safari works. These parks are not zoos. You don’t just drive in and the animals all come to you. You have to go searching for them. Sometimes, you won’t see anything but birds for an hour or two! Safari is time-consuming enough without wasting time travelling between parks for 60% of your available time!
